ARTI Parties and Workshops: Generous supporters of ARTS Obispo have donated a series of ARTI Parties and workshops with all proceeds benefiting the Arts in Education program. What a great way to have fun and support the arts!

Plein Air Picnic at Oak Mountain Ranch: Join your host Sara McGuire and leave your worries behind while you enjoy a splendid afternoon at this seldom visited, pristine ranch located just north of Cambria. The views are spectacular and you’ll enjoy seeing the original log cabin-style ranch house, a swimming hole and a pond with a boat. Guests are encouraged to bring a camera, sketchbook or paints. Special guest Anne Laddon of Studios on the Park will be onsite painting and sharing her “process.” You can also hike, swim or just relax and soak in the beauty. You’ll feast on a wonderful picnic lunch. This will be a day you’ll long remember!

Cheese Making Class: The delightful Karen Grey will teach you how you can make cheese in your home. In this two hour class, held at San Luis Kitchens, you will learn to make cheeses such as ricotta, mascarpone, fromage blanc and chevre as well as creme fraiche. Beyond Snapshots: Taking your photos to the next level with Ken Rothmuller Four Hour Photography Workshop for 4 people Whether you are using a P/S Camera or a high end DSLR, taking photos that have an impact is a learned skill. Most people may be satisfied with quick snapshots of family events or travel holidays. If you would like to move beyond snapshots and take your photos to the next level, this intimate, 4 hour workshop is for you.
You will be able to take away 7 concepts that can dramatically improve your images. After the workshop, instead of just letting your images whirl around on your computer, you will be making prints to frame and perhaps even books to share with friends and relatives. This Saturday Workshop will be limited to 4 people and taught in the instructor’s home.
Topics will include: • Defining what differentiates a snapshot from a strong, visually compelling image • Two prongs of photography: Craft and Art • Understanding and making the best use of light • Understanding what catches our eye • Composition (the good, bad and ugly) • Subject forward, making sure your subject is obvious We will learn by example. A number of images will be used for our discussion (both snapshots and beyond). You are encouraged to bring 4 to 6 of your own images that we could view and discuss ways in which they can be improved. After the workshop, we will celebrate with wine and cheese!

YOU CAN MAKE IT! Polymer Clay Sculpting Workshop for Children: Inspired Creation will occur in the magic Pacific Garden Studio in SLO! Open to children 7-12 this afternoon workshop will be taught by Carol Silva Johnson and Lynn Matheny in their enchanting Pacific Garden Studio in Old Town SLO. Workshop leaders will guide the design of a piece. After the art bakes, the paints will come out! Snacks and beverages will be provided. Treat your favorite child to this delightful experience!
