Artist Bio:

Michelle Ellis has served as the Resident Artist at Brecon Estate Winery in Paso Robles since May 2014. Additional work can be found on exhibit in galleries and art festivals in San Luis and Santa Barbara Counties.  Awards earned include “Judge’s Award” and “People’s Choice” Award and “Honorable Mention” awards. She was selected as the featured Artist of the Month through the Artist Guild of the Santa Ynez Valley, and featured Guest Artist at Pavlov Contemporary Art Gallery in Solvang.

An “intuitive artist” most of her abstract paintings are created from instinct, without reference material or consideration of the final outcome. She paints intuitively using energetic, spontaneous brushstrokes, building up and blending thin layers of paint, mostly on textured canvases. The process is visceral, emotional and all consuming. Her inspiration is drawn from nature’s kaleidoscope of patterns, colors and forms. Natural elements are used such as stone, cement, rock, rust, and other natural elements. Additional materials used are mixed media including wire, metal, and rust into some paintings, while staying true to the use of bold colors, textured canvases, and the occasional use of copper or silver leaf, or metallic accents.
